2 proxy servers (dell 860 quadcore, 2 GB) behind a Foundry ServerIron Load Balancer
- 2 backend servers pop/imap with local raid6 (dell 2950 quadcore, 8 GB ram, 6x 300GB sas disk)
2 webmail servers (dell 860 quadcore) with squirrelmail behind the ServerIron
All servers run FreeBSD 7.1

Each mail user has a fixed backend server. the proxy servers forwards the connection based on login to the relevant backend server via mysql lookup.
no shared storage, no nfs.
mysql database is replicated to all proxy and backend servers.
